Recently i’ve been painting signs: signs of arrows pointing in all directions, signs of exits, signs of stop and go. I like putting them in places of redundancy so that they don’t do what the signs suggest- for example on the floor or at an angle on the wall. They then become objects that are just really paintings and not signs at all- perhaps something of beauty. I’m interested in the way the paintings/objects/signs sit within exhibition and how they work in the space. New meanings come about.
